Week 5: Get Ready For Easter

April 25, 2009

Week 5 of Get Ready For Easter

“It is Finished!” Those were the last words of Jesus as He hung on the cross. A man named Joseph went to Pilate after Jesus had died, and asked him if he could take Jesus’ body and bury Him. Pilate agreed. Joseph took the body of Jesus and put Him in his tomb, which was carved out of a very large rock, kind of like a cave. Then Joseph rolled a large rock in front of the tomb to seal it up. At the demand of the Jewish leaders, Pilate posted guards around Jesus’ tomb. These soldiers were there when Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the tomb. As they got closer to the tomb, they felt the earth shake as an angel rolled back the stone and sat on it. The angel’s appearance was so bright that the guards fell unconscious. The angel told the women, “Do not be afraid. I know you are looking for Jesus but He is not here. He has risen, just as He said.” The angel sent the women to tell this good news to all the others, including the disciples. Mary Magdalene went back to the empty tomb and began to cry. She heard someone say her name. As she looked up, she saw it was Jesus. She was so excited. She ran to find the disciples. Jesus really was alive! (Source: Matthew 27:57-66 & 28:1-7, John 20:11, 14-18)

Jesus is alive! He overcame death. Even though He suffered and was put to death, God had the final victory because Jesus rose from the dead on the third day! There is no better news than this. No one else has ever done anything like this or ever will.

Because of what happened on the cross, I can now have eternal life. I can live forever with God in heaven. I can have His strength with me now on earth. When I have God in my life, He helps me each day. I don’t have to be afraid of anything. He also has a special plan and purpose for my life. This is worth sharing with my friends and family. I want them to have the same excitement and same eternity that I have.

I can tell others about the good news of Easter. I can invite friends to come to church so they can hear about Jesus too. My life can tell others about Jesus by the way I talk and act. When I make good choices and help others, I am showing them what is important in my life. This week I can tell one friend about what Jesus means to me and why I celebrate Easter.

Thought…

April 18, 2009

This is taken from Week 4 of Get Read For Easter I thought I would share this with everyone…

Jesus was 100% God and He was 100% man, except He never sinned. He is the only way for us to get to heaven. When Jesus died on the cross, He took upon Himself the sins of the world and paid the price so that anyone who believes in Him can live forever in heaven.

When you understand why Jesus chose to die on the cross, you are one step closer to believing in Him. You can see how much God loved each one of us when He sent His son Jesus to die for us. He let His own Son endure pain, suffering and even death on a cross so we could all have a personal relationship with Him. All you have to do is believe with faith and accept His gift of Salvation.

Do I believe in heaven? Do I believe that there is life after people die? Or is this just a made up story about a man dying? Well, let me tell you, Jesus is real. When I understand who He is and what He did on the cross, I have something awesome to believe in. I have hope for the future. I have purpose for my life. I don’t need to do anything to earn my way to God or into heaven. All I have to do is believe.

Believing in Jesus is really pretty simple, but it requires faith. I need to understand that God sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for all the wrong things I do. When I tell God that I am sorry for all my sins and that I believe in Jesus and want Him to come into my heart, He will. I don’t need to be perfect. I don’t need to do certain deeds to get to heaven. I can talk to Him anytime. I can go to church to learn more about Jesus. I can read my Bible every day to learn more about Jesus. The more I learn about Jesus, the better my relationship with Him will be. This week, if I haven’t already asked Jesus to be the boss of my life, I will take the steps necessary to find out more about what it means to believe in Jesus so I will have a place in heaven with Him.
